Where Shall We Go? Louisville Days and Campfire Nights

Have you ever had one of those weekends when you feel like you could sneak away for just a few days—somewhere close enough for a road trip but far enough to feel like a getaway? That’s exactly what we did recently. Louisville, Kentucky, was our pick—just about a six-hour drive from home and the perfect mix of easy travel and new adventure.

Before hitting the road, I gave our SUV a quick refresh at the car wash and added our favorite Drive Time® Truck Puck® in Campfire Nights. With everything loaded and Tosh and David ready to roll, we headed south for our weekend escape.

A Road Trip That Smells Like Adventure

Your customers will love the Drive Time Truck Puck for its rugged design and refillable function. We chose Campfire Nights this time—a warm, smoky, and woody scent layered with sandalwood and musk. It’s reusable too: simply separate the tire tread casing and replace the scent disc when it’s time for a refresh.

The discs are made from fragrance-infused resin—so there’s no mess, no leaks, and nothing to spill in your vehicle. We popped ours into a cup holder, but it also comes with two clip options for the vent or visor, allowing drivers to place it wherever fragrance is needed most.

Exploring Louisville

Our first stop was Waterfront Park, a beautiful stretch along the Ohio River perfect for a walk and a quick stretch. The highlight was the Big Four Bridge, a former 1895 railroad bridge turned pedestrian walkway that offers stunning views and a great place for Tosh to run off some energy.

No trip to Louisville would be complete without wandering through Old Louisville—a sprawling 40-block district filled with Victorian mansions dating from the 1850s to the 1920s. Strolling those tree-lined streets feels like stepping back in time.

Local Flavor and Hidden Gems

Though Kentucky is famous for bourbon, we opted for a stop at the Old Louisville Brewery, nestled right in the historic neighborhood. It was the perfect pause on our self-guided tour. David ordered a Gilded Lily, a smooth, less-hoppy beer, while I enjoyed a light Kolsch called Coaster Beer—crisp and easy to drink. We paired our drinks with smoky cheddar bacon knotty pretzels and Savoursmiths chips from the UK. The brewery doesn’t have a full kitchen, but the snacks hit the spot.

The next day, we treated ourselves to dinner at Brazeiros Churrascaria, a Brazilian steakhouse that instantly took us back to our travels in São Paulo years ago. From the expansive salad bar to 15 cuts of perfectly seasoned meat, it was more than a meal—it was a dining experience. This location is owned and operated by Brazilians, which made the atmosphere and flavors even more authentic.

A Weekend Worth Repeating

We were hoping to catch the full spectrum of fall colors, but we arrived just a bit early. Still, the trip was refreshing, and we’re already planning a return visit—maybe a five-day version next time. Next round, we might take the scenic route through Land Between the Lakes and my old hometown, Russellville—and of course, reload the Truck Puck for the journey ahead.
